Former Macleans College student Matthew Martel (Rutherford House 2010 – 2014) was recently awarded the Rankine Brown Prize for Classical Languages at Victoria University Wellington.

Matthew is currently studying for a triple major BA in Classics, Latin and Greek. He is in his third year of studying Classics but it is his second of studying languages. Outside of his studies, he is interested in social soccer and making music.

The Rankine Brown Prize in Classics arises from a fund created in 1946 by the past students and friends of Victoria University to commemorate the work of Professor Sir J Rankine Brown in the Chair of Classics 1899 – 1945. The prize is offered annually to the best Classics student of the year.
