Prefects Assembly – ‘Look Up’
Posted on March 27, 2017
Recently the Macleans College Prefects organised a school assembly to discuss the theme of the impact of time spent on mobile phones.
The prefects wanted to emphasise the time spent on phones, to the detriment of everything else. Whilst it was acknowledged that mobile phones are useful tools they can absorb a lot of time every day at the expense of interfacing directly with other people.
A survey was carried out on phone use which found that students are using their phones for up to eight hours a day.
The conclusion of the assembly was a number of challenges to pupils to take the opportunity to talk to others face to face rather than using their devices. A humorous skit by some of the prefects highlighted the deterioration of family life and social skills through the over use of mobile devices.
