On Thursday 25 June, Police Officers from several Specialist Police Squads visited Macleans College to talk to the Year 13 Police Studies class.
The visiting Police Officers were; Constable J Collins (Armed Offenders Squad), Acting Senior Sergeant MJ Riddle (Tāmaki Makaurau Project and Senior Advisor for the Women’s Development and Diversity network), Detective Constable J Hunkin (Tactical Crime Unit), Sergeant C Issac, (Diplomatic and VIP Protection Team), Constable F Green (Search and Rescue), Constable L Temesvari (Air Support Unit) and Constable S Pikett-Walsh (Tactical Crime Unit).
Both Constable J Collins (Snell House 1999 – 2003) and Constable S Pikett-Walsh (Batten House 2007 – 2011) are ex-Macleans College students.
The Police Officers spoke about their roles within the New Zealand Police including the training required to join specialist squads, duties carried out within these specialist roles and of course they were able to share some of their ‘better work stories’.
This is the first year Macleans College is offering the Year 13 Police Studies course which is now a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to apply to join the NZ Police.
