The 2019 Pat Hanly Creativity Awards were held last week honouring creative and talented Year 13 Visual Arts students from the Auckland region.
Jessica Gu (Upham House) was one of the talented students selected for the award.
The award is open to students of the Visual Arts in the greater Auckland area, who have demonstrated outstanding creativity, imagination and commitment. Students are asked to submit an artist’s statement and an image of a work to complete the entry.
As part of the award, students received a certificate and goody bag of art materials presented at an awards ceremony at the Auckland Art Gallery and the opportunity to attend two all-expenses-paid exclusive art workshops.
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki has been the host of the Pat Hanly Creativity Awards since 2002. The awards, supported by primary sponsor AUT, acknowledge Pat’s outstanding contribution to New Zealand contemporary art and his passion for art education and supporting young artists.
“The Pat Hanly Creativity Awards were created to acknowledge the voice of young people, he respected and encouraged those voices, indeed when he ‘retired’ as an artist, he said it was “to make way for the new generation of artists”. - Amber Rhodes, daughter of Pat Hanly.
