Painting students selected as Wallace Secondary Schools Art Awards finalists
Posted on October 04, 2022
Senior painting students Eve Boermans (Year 12, Te Kanawa House) and Gary Ni (Year 13, Upham) have been named as finalists in the prestigious Wallace Secondary Schools Art Awards 2022.
Eve’s successful submission “Roots” is a painting work which explores the concept of memory and how it can become blurred, layered and fragmented. The painting includes the image of her childhood home combined with a fragmented memory of a rhubarb leaf. In working with a personal narrative the piece also deals with ideas about immigration and change.
Gary Ni will exhibit a highly detailed large-scale drawing work in the finalists exhibition titled “Yuukaku”. Gary’s work is a study of human figures in an elaborately patterned interior.
The exhibition will be on display at the Pah Homestead, from the initial opening awards ceremony on 5 October and will continue until 30 October.
