Outdoor Education students undertake navigation and tramping challenge
Posted on November 03, 2022
At the start of Term 4 the Year 12 Outdoor Education class travelled to Mahurangi Regional Park to participate in a navigation tramp and challenge.
This trip took place over two days with the first day consisting of a beautiful scenic tramp to help the class orientate themselves with the Mahurangi environment.
On day two, the class were split into groups to complete an orienteering challenge using maps and compasses. This allowed the students to practice the skills learnt in class to best navigate their way around the locations marked out on their maps, challenging each other to see who could complete the course the fastest.
In the evening, the class spent time perfecting the construction of their shelters making sure they were water tight and strong. They planned and prepared their own food over gas cookers ensuring they had appropriate nutritional meals to sustain them for the next day.
The class had a great time and did well to meet the requirements for two standards of the course gaining credits in camping and navigation.
Thank you to Ms Uden and Mr Watson for taking the class away overnight.
