Outdoor Education students conquer high ropes challenge
Posted on April 11, 2022
The Macleans College Outdoor Education programme has grown to three classes this year with two Year 13 classes and one Year 12 class.
The two Year 13 Outdoor Education classes travelled to Unitec to complete the Adventure Works High Ropes Challenge Course. Each class spent two days at the course learning new skills including how to belay, setting up high ropes and knot tying.
The purpose of the visit was for the students to start building trust in each other and putting some of the leadership principles learnt in class into practice. The students had to work collaboratively together, use effective communication and positive encouragement throughout in helping their classmates conquer the challenges.
The course involved several different individual climbs with the Leap of Faith being the ultimate in trusting your classmates and holding your nerves, while the Flying Kiwi provided additional fun with the students being launched into the air by classmates.
The course was a great experience all round for the students and the classes are looking forward to their next challenge in scuba diving.
