Olympics debut for former Macleans College student

Former Macleans College student Andrea Anacan (Mansfield House 2005 - 2008) has been selected to represent New Zealand in Karate at the forthcoming Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Andrea is the first New Zealander to compete in Karate at an Olympic Games. Her announcement came shortly after she had competed in the final Olympics qualification tournament in Paris, France.
She has been involved in the sport since the age of four and when she was in her teens began competing more seriously.
Karate is one of five sports debuting at the Tokyo Olympics. It consists of two separate disciplines - kumite and kata. The latter is Andrea's discipline.
Andrea won the Sportswoman of the Year at the Macleans College Senior Prizegiving in 2008.
