NZCT Chamber Music Contest 2018

Four Macleans chamber music groups competed at the 2018 NZCT Chamber Music Contest on Thursday 7 June.
Performing Suite Americana No.1 by Enrique Crespo, the newly formed brass quintet Perfect Fifth featured Shanhai Guan (Hillary House), Judd Zhan (Snell), Luke Lin (Mansfield), Alex Jin (Mansfield) and David Li (Snell).
Fourtissimo Saxes, featuring, Jimmy Zhou (Batten), Yuna Otani (Batten), Alex Jin and Miles Boermans (Te Kanawa), performed Gabriel Pierne’s Introduction et Variations Sur Une Ronde Populaire.
The Accidental Trio, a group formed through a year 10 curriculum music project featuring, Ruby Shi (Batten), Daniel Ahn (Batten) and David Li performed Beethoven’s Ghost Trio.
The final group Macleans Trio A featured Reuben Chung (Mansfield), Luke Lin and Alphonse Jing (Mansfield) performing The Horn Trio in Eb by Johannes Brahms.
Macleans Trio A were selected to progress through to the semi-final stages of the competition and won the right to perform in the final held on Sunday 10 June at the Ray Feedman Arts Centre where they were presented with the competition’s KBB award for a group displaying excellence that includes a wind or brass instrument.
