New Zealand Zonta District Governor visits Macleans College

Last Wednesday, the Zonta Club was delighted by a visit from the New Zealand District 16 Governor, Phillippa Jacobs Lowry.
Phillippa began by congratulating the Z Club’s efforts with the Chips Packet Project. In conjunction with the Enviro Club, Z Club members collect chip packets or any foil-wrapped food item, which are washed and fused together with an iron to create “survival sheets” for Aucklanders in need.
Encouraging the group to keep striving to create an awareness of issues girls across the world face, she reminded them that child marriage and limited educational opportunities are a barrier to success and independence. Phillippa described her role as the Governor and briefed members about a recent ZONTA convention she attended in Hamburg, Germany. The group learned about what they could do to further empower women and fundraising projects they could undertake, such as Let Us Learn Madagascar, where for as little as $3 a girl could be educated for a month, and the New Zealand based Grandparents Raising Grandkids Trust.
Phillippa is also the founder and CEO of Pinnacle & Co, based in Christchurch. She was in Auckland to attend the 35th birthday of the ZONTA East Auckland area club and was accompanied by ZONTA East Auckland President, Gay Gallagher, and Director, Robyn Fox.
