Posted on August 22, 2024

Year 12 Macleans College student Cyril Chen (Mansfield House) has won the senior division of the North Island final in the New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition (NZPMC).

Held at the University of Auckland, this competition involved almost 1,000 students from across the North Island.

The competition contained physics and mathematics problems at a very high level, and was a stern test of the students’ knowledge and problem-solving skills under significant time pressure. Qualifying for the final meant a performance level in the top 1% of the national student population.

Macleans College sent 41 students to the finals day event after they progressed through qualifying. Once again, Macleans College was strongly represented in the very top achievement levels. The finals qualifying students received badges and certificates through their House Leaders, and all deserve congratulations for their achievement.
