Macleans College compete at New Zealand Interschool Chess finals

Posted on October 18, 2024

The Macleans College premier chess team recently travelled to Wellington to compete in the New Zealand Interschool Chess finals.

This year's competition, hosted by Wellington College, brought together top school teams from all regions of the country to compete in a seven-round Swiss tournament with rapid match formatting (25 minutes + 5 seconds increment).

The team consisted of Alex Pan (Hillary House), Charles Zhang (Hillary), George Guo (Hillary), Lucas Xiao (Rutherford) and TJ Kichavadi (Batten).

After two days and seven rounds of hard fought matches, Macleans College finished fifth equal in New Zealand - a step closer to reclaiming the national title.

Thank you to Mr Chang and Mr Yang for their organisation in making this experience possible for the chess team.
