New Zealand Cross Country Championships

Twenty Macleans College students travelled to Christchurch recently to compete in the New Zealand Cross Country Championships.

The squad included two Year 9 Boys’ teams (a six person and a five person), one Senior Boys’ team (three person) and one Junior Girls’ team. Individuals competed in both the Year 9 and Senior Girls’ races.

The Year 9 boys finished 5th and 6th in the three and six person event, respectively. David De Vaal (Kupe House) finished 6th overall. This was impressive as there was a huge number of competitors.

The Junior Girls’ team finished 8th which was also a commendable result considering they were impaired by illness.

Theo Quax (Kupe) finished 5th in the Senior Boys race and was selected to represent New Zealand in the Secondary Schools World Championships later this year.

The event gave the Macleans students the opportunity to galvanise into a competitive team.
