New Zealand Chamber Music Contest

Seven chamber music groups from Macleans College have been busily preparing for the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest since the start of the year.
Rehearsals and coaching sessions with visiting tutors have occurred continuously with the culmination of the students endeavours being presented at the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest last week, held at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School. Creditable performances were given by all groups which consisted of the following students:
Deo - Andrew Khampraseuth Vo, Flute (Batten House); Wei Ting Teo, Piano (Rutherford); Jiaxi Li, Violin (Batten)
Macleans Saxophone Quartet - Jimmy Zhou, Soprano (Batten); Yuna Otani, Alto (Batten), Alex Jin, Tenor (Mansfield); Miles Boermans, Baritone (Te Kanawa)
Trio Elegiaque - Leon Chen, Piano (Batten); Angela Ling, Violin (Te Kanawa); Jenny Zhu, Cello (Hillary)
Le Sons Trio - Leon Chen, Piano (Batten); Stephanie Wang, Violin (Snell); Katrina Zhang, Cello (Te Kanawa)
Trio Capriccio - Michael Luo, Violin (Mansfield); Stephanie Wang, Violin (Snell); Thomas Ye, Violin (Upham)
Glinka Trio - Tony Chen, Piano (Mansfield); Walter Xu, Violin (Hillary); Daniel Ai, Cello (Upham)
Giovanni Trio - Tony Chen, Piano (Mansfield); Walter Xu, Violin (Hillary); Nelson Lao, Flute (Te Kanawa)
Adjudicators John Van Buskirk and Martin Riseley selected the Giovanni Trio to proceed to the Auckland District Semi-Finals on Sunday 11th June where they impressed the judges once again and were selected for the District Final that evening and presented with the KBB award.
