New composition to feature at Senior Prizegiving
Posted on October 30, 2023
A new composition written specifically for Macleans College Prizegiving ceremonies will receive its first performance at this year’s Year 12 and 13 Senior Prizegiving.
Written by Head of Performing Arts, Dr Miles, the piece is based around the use of a musical cryptogram. An opening fanfare motif spells out the name Macleans in music, over driving percussion lines before being given retrograde, fragmentation and imitation treatment. The central melodic processional music paints a hopeful and celebratory scene before fragments of the initial fanfare statements close the work.
Dr Miles said, “It’s a special thing, to have a piece of music written for you, that is uniquely yours. I have written a number of these types of compositions over the years, some of which are still used at annual celebrations in concerts, ceremonies and television broadcasts. I hope that the Macleans Fanfare and Processional can be used for many years to come.”
