Nationally Ranked in Monetary Policy Challenge
Posted on July 06, 2018
The Macleans College Monetary Policy team has placed third nationally at the Annual Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Monetary Policy Challenge.
The team consisted of Yang Fan Yun (Snell House - Team Governor), George Furniss (Batten), John Sibanda (Mansfield), Judd Zhan (Snell), and Delos He (Hillary).
After being selected to attend the Finals in Wellington as one of the top six schools in the country from the preliminary rounds out of over 50 teams, the team was required to give a 30 minute presentation to Reserve Bank representatives about their decision to maintain the Official Cash Rate (OCR) of New Zealand unchanged at 1.75%.
This required them to analyse and evaluate various factors that affect the New Zealand economy, both domestic and international. This year, the challenge was particularly tough due to the change in the Reserve Bank's mandate to include employment alongside inflation as targets for monetary policy.
Macleans College teams have a long history of success in the Monetary Policy Challenge. The teams have placed in the top three every year for the past three years, and have attended the National Finals in Wellington as one of the top six schools in the country for the past four consecutive years.
The team would like to thoroughly thank Mrs Ladkoo for her continuous support.
