National Secondary Schools Touch Championship
Posted on December 16, 2016
The Premier Mixed Touch team competed in the National Secondary Schools Touch Championship held at Bruce Pulman Park in Papakura last weekend.
The event was at capacity with 48 teams competing in three grades from the far South through to Whangarei in the North. Whilst the event was a mixture of four seasons in one weekend, producing logistical challenges with field changes and restrictions on flags and tents due to high winds, the games were played in excellent spirit.
The Macleans mixed team had a very successful tournament over three days of play, finishing up in 4th place overall. The team played eight games of 40 minutes with some excellent wins over Waitakere, South Otago, Mahurangi and Rangitoto Colleges. This was a fantastic achievement for a young team that look forward to competing in the new Auckland-Wide Premier competition next year.
Special mention must go to Kirk McGregor (Batten House) and Trent Hunt (Te Kanawa) for making the Tournament Team – which is the team of best players selected from across all teams, and to Sean Wilkie (Mansfield) for his selection in the U15 New Zealand Boys team earlier this year.
Well done and good luck for the season ahead in Term 1.
