National Maths Week celebrated with fun-filled activities
Posted on September 01, 2022
In the third week of Term 3 2022, Macleans College celebrated National Maths Week.
This was a week to celebrate the subject of Mathematics. Students participated in a range of fun-filled activities such as a freehand circle competition at house assembly, a maths art competition and also kahoots during form time.
The week began with a code breaker competition, released to all classes during form time on Monday. Everyone was given the first clue of the three-part code, their answer leading them to another teacher who would provide the next clue. This was a great opportunity to test the students’ creative thinking and their knowledge on the Greek alphabet and other cipher systems! Congratulations to Hope Zhang and Caitlin Ong (both of Rutherford House) who were the overall winners of the competition.
On Tuesday, a Rubik’s cube competition was held during lunchtime. The Rubik’s cube champion was Richard Tao (Kupe) with an astounding average time of 9.2 seconds.
Further into the week, a series of logic puzzles were given out during form time, freshening fellow students up for the day, with flexagon workshops held during lunchtime.
The Maths Week Committee decided on the winner of the maths-inspired art competition, congratulations to Anisa Prajitno (Batten) for placing first in this competition.
Special thanks to the Maths Week Committee and Mrs Carlson as well as Miss Field who organised the week for the whole school to enjoy.
