MP David Seymour Speaks to Year 13 Social Studies Class
Posted on August 14, 2019
Year 13 Social Studies classes were recently visited by David Seymour, MP for Epsom, where students gauged his point of view on the controversial issue of euthanasia and assisted dying.
The ACT Party MP is the sponsor for the End of Life Choice Bill, which is currently moving through the New Zealand Parliament. The landmark bill would legalise and regulate certain forms of euthanasia and assisted dying in New Zealand.
The hotly contested public debate around the issue is currently being researched and examined by the students. They are expected to compare and contrast many existing points of view that exist on the issue and produce a report which will count towards credits in their NCEA Level 3 pathway.
In the hour-long session, the MP elaborated on his personal beliefs, how they came about, explained his legislation, and answered student questions.
Many thanks to Mr Seymour for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak at Macleans College.
