Model United Nations Assembly 2017
Posted on June 08, 2017
A group of senior students from Macleans College has recently attended the Model United Nations Assembly held at Auckland Girls’ Grammar School.
The school has participated in the event for the last ten years.
Teams from across Northland and Auckland spent two days debating global issues such as the free movement of asylum seekers, water and sanitation, renewable energy and the consequences of colonisation on aboriginal communities. With some heated debate topics ranging from rising xenophobia in Europe, to drug trading in South America.
The four Macleans teams represented the delegates of the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Guatemala and Romania.
At the end of the two days the team representing the United Kingdom was awarded the prize for best team contribution to the Security Council.
The students and the school are thankful for the funding it receives from the Half Moon Bay Rotary Club to attend the annual event.
