Medal Haul at Fencing North Regional Competition

In the first competition of the year, Macleans College fencers came away with six medals.

On Saturday March 3 Alex McGuire-Barnes and Nick McGuire-Barnes (both Te Kanawa House), both received bronze medals in the Men's U17 foil competition.

That afternoon Macleans College dominated the Men's U17 Sabre competition with seven of the top eight placed fencers including Rayman Tang (Rutherford) who received a bronze medal and Donovan Wu (Rutherford) who won a silver medal. Kevin Hou (Upham) cemented his number one ranking for NZ U17 Sabre by winning the competition, taking home a gold medal.

The following morning Howard Wu (Mansfield) improved on his 5th placing in 2017 in the U15 men’s foil competition by finishing second and received a silver medal.

The organisers would like to thank Nick and Alex McGuire-Barnes for giving up their Sunday to referee at the U15 competition.
