Market Day – ESOL Business Studies

Posted on September 20, 2016

On Wednesday 14 September, ESOL Immersion Business Studies classes held their first Market Day at Macleans College.

Preparation for the day involved producing a detailed business plan for their business activity. The students learnt how to write a mission statement and set SMART objectives. They prepared and carried out market research, and analysed the data collected to help them choose the best product. They came up with a budget and a detailed production process.

On Market Day, the sun was out and 51 proud students put on display a variety of food and crafts from their countries: China, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and Papua.

David Zhou (Te Kanawa House) kept a close eye on the production of his group’s authentic dumplings whilst the “HomeMade Sushis” team of Nancy Zhu (Upham), Sally Choi (Kupe), Jingjing Liu (Snell) and Ivy Zhang (Kupe) were soon sold out. The “IndoThai” team were also sold out before the end of lunch with puddings made by Mince Mbisikmbo (Hillary), Big Singhasenee (Upham), Prestin Wonda (Upham) and Jerikho Warwe (Mansfield).

A big crowd of students and teachers visited the market throughout lunchtime and stalls were empty by the time the bell went.
