“O lupe sa vao ese’ese, ae ua fuifui faatasi”. We are from different parts of the forest, but connected in one cause.
Connected by the idea of celebration, the Māori and Pasifika cultures throughout Macleans College were showcased in the second ever Macleans College Fiafia Night.
On the evening of Friday 19 August, students from the Girls’ Siva Samoa Group, Macleans College Chorale and the Kapa Haka Roopu performed at the school.
With the gym remodelled, the space was filled with mana and a sense of gratitude as family, friends, ancestors and the community came together to embrace the alluring cultures. Through dance, song, haka, and spoken word the audience experienced the strength and empowerment the Māori and Pasifika cultures have at the school.
“It takes a village to raise a child”, therefore this night took place because of the students and teachers' love for their cultures and values.
Ngā mihi nui goes out to Ms Tuialii (Deputy Principal), Mr Sarah (Te Reo Māori Kaiako) and Mrs Chui (Fiafia co-ordinator) for being the pillars of the Fiafia night village.
