Macleans Library Launches a Number of New Events

The theme was Time Travel, with students and staff displaying their favourite books. There were three ‘guess how many’ competitions in the library, and after hundreds of entries the winners were Felix Cui 11GKT, Rachel Li 11GUB and Christy Lam 9GOT. The winners of the ‘Design a Bookmark’ competition were also announced. The junior winner was Sami Naseem 10BLM and the senior winner was Jared Hartshorn 13DNB.

Local author David Riley visited the school, talking to year nine and ten students about the importance of reading. He told some stories about how books changed the lives of two ordinary young people who went on to become successful and famous personalities. He also talked about his writing, the process required to have it published and the influences which inspired him to become a writer.

A book parade was also held during the week, where students and staff were invited to come dressed as a book character or a book author. Piper Shields 11GGK won the best student costume for her rendition of Hazel Grace Lancaster from John Green’s Fault in Our Stars. The best staff costume was won by Mr Meldrum for his costume as Nac Mac Feegle from Terry Prachett’s The Wee Free Men series.
