Macleans College entered eight teams in the Auckland Schools’ Pairs Bridge competition on Sunday 28 July, held at the Auckland Bridge Club in Remuera.
After a morning of cut-throat bridge, they had finessed and slammed the opposition to dominate both sections of the room.
Year 12 students Xiaoyu Tony Ren (Upham House) and Donny Weng (Te Kanawa) were 1st in the North/South division, ahead of Year 10 students Michael Li (Batten) and Ian Chou (Hillary) in 2nd, with Year 13 students Kevin Hu (Te Kanawa) and Liya Lai (Batten) 3rd. All three teams scored over 60%, a very good score in duplicate pairs competition.
In the East/West section Macleans College teams were again victorious, with Year 12 students Denny Woo (Upham) and Eric Liu (Upham) winning over Ian Hsu (Batten) and Victor Li (Mansfield) in second place, both teams again scoring over 60%.
