On 22 June two teams from Macleans College took part in the New Zealand Schools Japanese Trivia Championships.
Schools from Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill took part with the identical quiz set simultaneously in each venue. Competing against other teams from Auckland the Macleans Team 1 finished second in New Zealand with Team 2 also performing very well.
Team members were:
Team 1 – Emily Chin (10GALK), Sophia Liu (10GALK), Maggie Chen (10BLAS), Karen Liao (10GLEM).
Team 2 – Howard Wu (10GLEM), Emily Swasbrook (10GALK), Daniel Li (10GALK), John Xu (10GLEM).
The championships are a joint venture between the NZAJLT (New Zealand Association of Japanese Language Teachers) and JSANZ (Japanese Studies Aotearoa New Zealand). The event provides students with the opportunity of sharing their cultural knowledge with other students of Japanese by answering questions on Japanese Culture and General Knowledge.
