Macleans College Team Through to Trans-Tasman Battle in Business Case Competition

A Macleans College team will travel, expenses paid, to Brisbane to represent New Zealand in a case competition against an Australian secondary school team.
The team comprising Benjamin Payne (Snell House), Catherin Chen (Batten), Charlene Lo (Batten) and Zachary Wong (Batten) won the National Secondary Schools Business Case Competition. The competition is run by the University of Auckland Management Consulting Club, which is the largest academic club at the University and has an aim to develop, connect and inspire future leaders.
In a case competition, teams have to look at a real life organisation and analyse the company, identify key issues and present a strategy on how the organisation can best meet its aims to a panel of judges.
Case competitions require analytical, teamwork and presentation skills which are highly valued in the modern workplace.
The National Final brought together five teams across the country featuring St Kentigern College (2nd place), Auckland International College (3rd place), Scots College and Waimea College. Teams had three hours to prepare a strategy for Youthline, a not for profit organisation which seeks to create communities where young people thrive and can get help if they need it.
The competition was judged by Elia Kim, from Kensington Swan and Brendon Potter, Director of Student Development at the University of Auckland Business School. As the prize for winning the competition, the team of four will travel to Queensland, Australia at the end of the term to represent New Zealand in a competition against an Australian high school in a challenge for a trans-Tasman title. Expenses for this trip, including flights and accommodation, will be paid for the by the Management Consulting Club.
