Macleans College teachers feature in Unitec School of Creative Industries art exhibition

Posted on October 10, 2023

Teachers from the Macleans College Visual Arts and Textiles learning areas currently have works from their own creative practice on show in Practice - High School Teachers: Art, Design and Technology at Unitec’s new gallery space Toi o Wairaka.

The show brings together diverse examples from the art and design practices of thirty secondary school teachers who represent seventeen schools from the Auckland and Northland areas.

The curatorial concept behind the exhibition was to bring together a community of teachers who continue to practice what they teach enabling them to remain current and driven. Dr Bobby Hung PhD, MEd Academic Programme Manager and Senior Lecturer, Creative Industries, Unitec explains “…in turn it is the practice that underpins the teaching. A reciprocity exists. Teachers are never just teachers and artists are never just artists. We assume multiple identities of artist, researcher, and teacher.”

The exhibition is open to the public until 6 November.

Exhibiting staff include:

  • Miss Spragg - Reconfigured (ply, acrylic paint and vinyl)
  • Miss Kim - An (ink painting on board)
  • Ms Ledington - Cumulation I (6 x digital photographic prints)
  • Mrs Becroft - Te haerenga (photograph) and Pūriri in Blue (cyanotype print)
