Posted on February 22, 2024
A group of five senior Macleans College students attended the 61st annual Halberg Awards, held at Spark Arena on Wednesday 14 February.
The Halberg Awards showcase the best of New Zealand’s sporting talent, highlighting exceptional performances, records broken and inspiring stories of dedication and perseverance. The awards evening is the major fundraising event for the Halberg Foundation which aims to enhance the lives of physically disabled young kiwis through sport and recreation.
Head Prefects Alexander Fenwick (Snell House) and Mia Young (Mansfield), alongside House Captains Danielle Asiata (Batten), Jamie Carville (Snell) and Mulan Chan See (Snell) relished the opportunity to show their support for the foundation at the prestigious annual event.
Leading up to the event, the students raised money by selling raffle tickets in support of the Halberg Foundation and on the night of the awards, they had the privilege of watching the star-studded ceremony from their own table while soaking in the amazing atmosphere.
Before the ceremony, the students enjoyed a tour of Spark Arena which included an exciting preview of Stan Walker warming up his vocals before his show. The students were then welcomed onto the red carpet along with all the other attendees of the event where they had the privilege and opportunity to meet a range of athletes, celebrities and other important people associated with the foundation and its work. Presentations then followed from All Blacks legend Richie McCaw and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
Thank you to the Halberg Foundation for making the night possible and allowing this group of Macleans College students to experience and be involved in the occasion.
