Four Macleans College students competed in the 2024 Vantage National U18 Hockey Championships, held in Napier and Christchurch over the July school holidays.

Year 13 student Amy Thackwray (Hillary House) was selected for the Auckland Women U18 Blue team and Year 11 student Kayla Thackwray (Hillary) was selected for the Auckland Women U18 White team.

Year 13 student Connor Macmillan (Rutherford) and Year 12 student Jaxon Lewis (Te Kanawa) were selected for the Auckland Men U18 White team.

Amy, Kayla, Connor and Jaxon spent several weeks during Term 2 preparing with their respective Auckland teams.

During the first week of the school holidays, the boys travelled to Napier and the girls to Christchurch. Both competitions were fiercely contested throughout pool games and play-off stages by 22 teams from across New Zealand. All four players represented Auckland outstandingly well; showcasing their hockey skills, fitness levels and positive attitude.

The Auckland Women U18 Blue team narrowly lost to North Harbour Women U18A in the semi finals but finished strongly with a 3-1 win against Hawkes Bay U18 Women, to take the bronze medal.

North Harbour Women U18A won the Girl's Championship and Auckland Men U18 Blue won the Boy's Championship.
