Macleans College Students gain experience at the Maatangi Whenua Geography Competition

Posted on August 17, 2018

On Tuesday 14 August 2018, two Year 11 Macleans College teams participated in the Maatangi Whenua Geography Competition held at St Cuthbert’s College.

The two teams consisted of three students each. They competed against the top 15 teams from the Auckland region.

The students were required to complete eight different activities around six different stations within a set amount of time. These activities included general knowledge, current events, map reading, playdough modelling, identifying human and natural factors, determining landmarks, analysing a country with clues given, and multiple choice questions.

Overall, both teams competed very well and both placed in the top 10. They were able to gain new knowledge and experience during the competition which has helped boost their confidence in geography in general.

Thank you to Mr Quesnell and Mrs Jackson for their continuous support to the group.
