Macleans College students feature prominently at 2023 Howick Sports Awards

Three Macleans College students won awards at the recently held 2023 Howick Sports Awards.
Year 9 student Callum Noyer (Mansfield House) along with his teammate Callum Hyde (Botany Downs Secondary College) won the Junior Team of the Year. Callum and Callum represented New Zealand in the 2023 RS Feva World Championships in Italy. They finished first in the junior category, to win the title of the 2023 RS Feva Junior World Champions.
Year 13 student Finn Wilson (Upham) won Junior Sportsman of the Year. Finn was selected to represent New Zealand at the 2023 Junior Cycling World Championships in Scotland. In the Junior Men’s Road Race event Finn finished in 55th place, out of a field of 154 competitors.
Year 12 student Zoe Benson (Te Kanawa) won Sportswoman of the Year. Zoe gained selection for the New Zealand Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Championship team. The team played in the qualification competition for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. In a game against Papua New Guinea, Zoe scored four goals for New Zealand. The New Zealand team went on to win the OFC U19 Women’s Championship in early July, clinching them a spot to play at the world cup in Colombia in September 2024.
Three other Macleans College students were nominated in the Junior Sportswoman of the Year category. Year 10 student Ayaan Lambat (Batten) for her achievements in cricket. Year 12 student Danielle Asiata (Batten) for her impressive swimming performance at the Junior Commonwealth Games. Year 13 student Olivia Lin (Batten) for her talent in gymnastics.
