Macleans College students create gifts for Eastern Women’s Refuge

As an end of year project, the Year 11 Textiles students decided they would like to make a gift for the Eastern Women’s Refuge, an organisation which helps women in family violence.
Through a brief of “something to hold” the students designed and constructed a bag. They thought this gift would be useful for either a teenager or young child, displaced from their home. The bags were made using mainly upcycled materials.
Rose, the facilitator for Eastern Women’s Refuge visited the school to receive these gifts. She was impressed by the standard and the variety of the bags that were made. Rose then spoke to the students giving more information around how these bags would be distributed for Christmas and what a gift like this could mean.
The creation of these bags has been undertaken in collaboration with the school donation of non-perishable food and toiletries which the students and staff of Macleans College donate at this time of year.
