Macleans College students recently explored career opportunities in the infrastructure industry at a Girls in Infrastructure event.

Girls in Infrastructure is a pioneering initiative designed to broaden awareness and ignite interest among Year 12 and 13 girls about the diverse and rewarding career paths available in the infrastructure industry.

The Women’s Infrastructure Network and Infrastructure New Zealand teamed up with Auckland Airport this year to give secondary students an opportunity to learn about the careers available.

The day started with an insider’s pass onto different building sites at Auckland Airport. Climbing up scaffolding within construction zones, weaving through large steel beams and trusses, and getting a closer look at the process of laying underground services were just a few of the tours on offer.

Students explored and interacted with heavy machinery including rollers, diggers, cement trucks and cranes. The day ended with an infrastructure industry expo where students were able to connect with industry professionals and education providers about the various pathways available in infrastructure, construction, engineering and project management.

Students asked many questions and were inspired by the wealth of knowledge and expertise that was shared with them.
