Macleans College student wins Overload Art Competition 2023

Year 13 Art student Hannah Ouyang (Batten House) placed first in the Overload Art Competition, held as part of the Overload New Zealand Anime and Manga Convention.

Overload is a two-day convention devoted to celebrating New Zealand’s growing anime and manga culture. Creative enthusiasts gathered at Overload to exhibit and sell their creations.

Participants of the art competition were asked to design an original cyberpunk character. The design needed to include the character’s front, an action pose and the choice of two elements such as a weapon or cybernetic body part.

Hannah’s artwork depicted Lorry – an eccentric inventor and monster hustler. Hannah was announced as the first place winner on the Overload stage, in front of a live audience inside The Cloud on Queens Wharf.
