Libby Christophers, 12TKH, told a poignant and powerful story of her own family’s involvement in World War I in the recent ANZ RSA Cyril Bassett VC Speech Competition.
The competition was held in the Titirangi Returned Services Association Club and saw nine speakers from around the Auckland region competing for the prize.
She detailed for a captivated audience how her great grandfather and three of his brothers were killed in successive years during the war in Europe and the Middle East. She urged the audience to remember all the soldiers who gave their life and the virtues they exemplified.
Libby is currently working on a photography project related to historical materials linked to the events and her family.
