Macleans College rowers had an immensely successful week at the New Zealand schools national rowing championships; the Aon Maadi Regatta.

Held on Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel from 18 - 23 March, a squad of 12 Macleans College students proudly represented the school.

Year 13 student James Dimock (Te Kanawa House) raced in the final of the Boys under 18 single sculls. Outside of the coxed eight, this is the most significant and consequential race of the regatta; a race that has launched the careers of some of New Zealand’s greatest rowers. James finished in first place in the race with a brilliant time of 7:20.03; winning the gold medal.

James teamed up with Logan Turrall (Te Kanawa) to continue their season of success in the Boys under 18 double sculls; finishing third in the A Final.

Year 12 student Nathan Strachan (Rutherford) progressed through to the A Final of the Boys under 17 single sculls, where he placed third to claim the bronze medal.

The Boys under 18 coxed quad sculls team of James Dimock, Logan Turrall, Harrison Reeve (Kupe), Nathan Strachan and Isabella Chen (Hillary) placed seventh in the A Final.

Alexander Fahey (Mansfield) and Mitya Pechorin (Mansfield) placed first in the B Final of the Boys under 18 novice double sculls.

Given the small size of the Macleans College rowing squad, competing at New Zealand’s largest rowing regatta, these are remarkably impressive results.
