Macleans College student awarded fiercely sought-after poetry scholarship
Posted on June 29, 2023
Year 13 student Yiyang Cao (Batten House) has been selected for one of only four New Zealand Society of Authors mentorship programme scholarships for poetry.
The aim of this programme is to nurture, encourage, inspire and develop emerging writers with the support of established authors through the mentoring process.
Each of the recipients of this fiercely sought-after scholarship connect with their mentor over a 12 month period with the aim of producing writing that may be taken through to publication.
Yiyang is a superb poet, winning the 2023 Macleans College poetry competition and having been published in several literary magazines over the past few years. Yiyang was able to secure this mentorship with the written endorsement of the Macleans College English department.
