Macleans College squash players compete at National Competition

The Macleans College Premier Boys and Girls squash teams recently competed in the thrilling three-day New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Nationals.

This year the nationals were held across various squash centres on the North Shore.

The Premier Girls beat a higher seeded team, Epsom Girls’ Grammar 3-2, increasing their ranking from 15th to 10th seed. In their second match they lost to seeded 7th - Greymouth High School.

The Premier Boys lost their first game against Burnside High School however they convincingly beat Mount Albert Grammar School 5-0 in their second game.

In the following two days the girls’ team had close games against Sacred Heart Girls’ College New Plymouth, Hillcrest High School and Ruapehu College and eventually secured a final placing of 12th overall.

The Premier Boys team managed to defeat Mount Aspiring College but lost to Rodney College resulting in an improvement from 25th to 18th seed.

Nonetheless, both teams played exceptionally well and came away with a result to be proud of.

Premier Girls team: Amelie Lianto (Snell House), Valerie Lau (Batten), Priya Ranchhod (Snell), Emily Chan (Kupe), Kelly Sang (Kupe), Emily Russell (Snell).

Premier Boys team: Tanish Naidoo (Upham), Matthew Ren (Mansfield), Khivaan Naidoo (Upham), Shawn Woo (Upham), Soorya Senthoorvelan (Rutherford).
