Macleans College rock climbers shine in round three of climbing series
Posted on July 03, 2023
Last weekend the Macleans College rock climbing team participated in round three of the college climbing series.
This round was a top rope competition and Macleans College had climbers in all age groups. In the preliminary round climbers had 1.5 hours to score as many points as possible, by challenging themselves with walls that varied in terms of difficulty and required both technical ability and strength.
The top eight performers from each category progressed to the final round where they had one attempt to ascend a very highly graded wall.
Once again, the Macleans College students performed exceptionally well. Congratulations to these students who placed in the finals:
Intermediate Boys
- Klaas Kamp (Kupe House) - second place
- Ashton Phillips (Kupe) - seventh place
Senior Girls
- Tara Barrett (Upham) - eighth place
Senior Boys
- Cullen Campbell (Batten) - first place
Cullen is succeeding in a very strong field, which includes climbers who are competing and placing on the international climbing stage.
In addition, Macleans College was acknowledged for its sportsmanship and Lydia Anderson (Mansfield) was given a special mention for her volunteering efforts on the day.
Macleans College continues to sit at second place on the leader board in the schools’ competition with only a few points separating the team in first place.
A big thanks to Mr Ko, Mrs Anderson and Mr Phillips and the many parents who gave of their time to assist with belaying and supporting the team.
