Macleans College Qualifies for Golf Nationals
Posted on May 17, 2017
Almost a decade has passed since Macleans College qualified to represent the Auckland region at the National Secondary Schools’ Golf Nationals.
This current success comes on the back of some tremendous results including an earlier win over North Harbour champions Massey High School.
The team set out with determination on Monday at Howick Golf Club led by two of the top young golfers in the Auckland region, Connor Barker (Mansfield House) and Jimmy Zheng (Hillary). As current Auckland representatives they are well equipped to deal with the pressures of golf at the very top level. They were ably supported by Henry Wang (Batten), who is quickly making a name for himself as a huge prospect for the future. The final member of the team was the ever reliable Tony Liang (Kupe) whose enthusiasm and positivity has had a huge impact on the entire golf squad this year.
The team travel to Hawke’s Bay in September for an attempt at the national title and a great learning experience for all of the squad as they get an entire week of golf together in a high pressure environment against the best in the country. This will be another big step in the development of the Premier Golf Team at Macleans College, and another opportunity to represent the school with pride.
