Macleans College Premier Instrumental Groups Bring Home the Gold

Six instrumental groups from Macleans College joined the thousands of students taking part in the event in four categories - Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band and Jazz Band.

Strong performances were given by all groups who impressed with their thorough preparation. The two Macleans’ development groups, Symphonic Band and Sinfonietta Orchestra, were presented with Bronze Awards in their respective categories whilst the Chamber Orchestra and Stage Bands received Silver Awards.

Topping the competition and receiving an invitation to perform in the Gala Concert Finale, the Senior Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra were both presented with Gold Awards. Adjudicators commended the “tremendously challenging" programme of the Symphony Orchestra which was described by one audience member simply as “epic.” Concluding comments from adjudicators on the Senior Concert Band were equally complimentary, “a superb concert that was thoroughly entertaining and of the highest quality.” (John Snowling)
