Two Year 12 students from Macleans College Shafquat Tabeeb and Mushfiqur Khan (both of Mansfield House) recently competed as a team in the eighth New Zealand Secondary Schools Case Competition.
The New Zealand Secondary Schools Case Competition, run by Auckland University of Technology (AUT), is an annual national business case competition. Throughout the competition, teams are required to apply their business analytics and problem-solving skills to real-life business cases and propose comprehensive strategies under time pressure.
This year the case was on Les Mills International, a New Zealand based fitness company. The preliminary round took place on Saturday 25 June, where the team presented their case to a panel of Senior Lecturers and Researchers at the AUT City Campus. Coming first in their stream, Shafquat and Mushfiqur qualified to the final round the following day, which consisted of five teams from schools across New Zealand. The panel of judges, which included the Executive Director of Les Mills International, highly commended the group’s impressive presentation and business proposal.
The team was awarded the second place trophy as well as a cash prize of $500, while also winning the “Most Socially Responsible Concept” award, receiving another cash prize of $250.
This competition was a great opportunity to develop communication and networking skills with like-minded students and industry leaders.
