Macleans College places fifth overall in Auckland Schools Mountain Biking Series

Posted on October 28, 2020

The last round of the Auckland Schools Mountain Biking Series was held at Totara Park on 11 October.

After a disruptive year with many races cancelled, it was excellent to complete four out of five rounds of the series.  Macleans College had 12 riders competing this year.  Challenging races were held at Riverhead Forest, Woodhill Forest, Waitawa Regional Park and Totara Park, with the Hunua Ranges race missed this year due to COVID-19.

Congratulations to all the riders who competed and to the following riders with final series placings.

Student Division Placing
Finn Wilson (Upham House) U16 Boys Series Winner, with 3 straight wins
Joel Newson (Kupe) U20 Boys 6th
Matthew Moore (Te Kanawa) U20 Boys 8th
Blake Larcombe (Te Kanawa) U17 Boys 9th
Hunter McCabe (Snell) U15 Boys 8th

After all the riders’ points were added up across the series, Macleans College finished 5th Best Overall School out of 55 Auckland schools.  This is a great achievement for the small team.

A big thanks to Joel Newson and Rowena Newson who leave this year having been involved with Macleans College mountain biking for five years.  Joel for supporting and encouraging the new riders and Rowena for being the Macleans Team Manager, a valued member of the Auckland School MTB Committee and Race Manager for the Macleans College hosted race at Totara Park.
