Macleans College place second in Showquest
Posted on July 04, 2024
A group of 42 Macleans College students recently entered New Zealand’s biggest performing arts competition, Showquest.
The title of the Macleans College entry was ‘De(find)’; a theme about finding oneself and not letting people in a crowd manipulate you to change aspects of yourself that don’t match everyone else.
Alex Ready (Mansfield House), Mischa Inglis (Snell) and Abby Snooks (Snell) choreographed a series of dances with differing styles including hip hop, lyrical, jazz and contemporary to express different aspects of the narrative.
The students trained multiple times a week leading up to their final performance at Aotea Centre. Competition day, along with every training session, was filled with hard work, big smiles, laughter and plenty of stretching.
Macleans College successfully placed second in the greater Auckland region as well as receiving specialty awards including Best Lighting, Highly Commended Choreography, Highly Commended Drama and a new award for Public Speaking. Talented lead dancer Leana Ferguson (Batten) was awarded Star of the Show.
Showquest will always have a special place in the dancers' hearts. It is a unique extracurricular activity that is popular amongst the students who win awards at the show every year.
Thank you to Mrs Petreski and Miss Burnett for guiding all the students involved in the competition including dancers, singers, lifters and lighting crew.
