Macleans College on the path to the National Chess Championship

Posted on June 08, 2023

Macleans College sent four teams to compete in the recently held 2023 Eastern Zone Chess Championship.

This year’s event marked a milestone as the Eastern Zone Chess Championship attracted an unprecedented number of participants, including over 160 players and more than 40 teams from various schools in the region. The competition was organised and managed by Year 13 Macleans College student Allan Han (Batten House), serving as the Chief Arbiter. The Howick and Pakuranga Chess Club provided invaluable support for the smooth execution of the event.

Despite various clashes that prevented the teams from fielding their full strength, the Macleans College A team, consisting of Charles Zhang (Hillary), TJ Kichavadi (Batten), Jay Zhao (Rutherford), and George Guo (Hillary), placed second overall, securing Macleans College the opportunity to represent the region on the national stage.

Thank you to Mr Chang for his efforts in organising Macleans College Chess.
