Macleans College musicians represent at NZCT Chamber Music Contest

On Saturday 10 June, three Macleans College Chamber Music groups competed at the Auckland district round of the NZCT Chamber Music Contest.

The Tripartite Classics, comprised of Alex Bian (Rutherford House) – piano, William Lee (Rutherford) – clarinet and Catherine Yuan (Batten) – cello presented the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Trio in Bb Major Op. 11.

The Macleans String Quartet, comprised of Nancy Zhang (Mansfield) – violin, Ethan Zhang (Kupe) – violin, Justin Cui (Mansfield) – viola and Clare Wang (Mansfield) – cello presented the first movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor Op. 18 no.4.

The Saxy Men, comprised of Quinn Zhong (Upham) – soprano saxophone, Ethan Zhang – alto saxophone, Adrian Chan (Te Kanawa) – tenor saxophone and Leo Mamedov (Kupe) – baritone saxophone presented My Neighbour Totoro Medley composed by Joe Hisaishi arr. Yuto Yumada.

The three groups represented Macleans College well, clearly showing the many hours of preparation for their performances through disciplined ensemble and careful attention to detail, that drew much praise from the contest adjudicators.
