Macleans College halfback signs professional rugby contract
Posted on September 02, 2022
Years of hard work both on and off the field has seen Macleans College 1st XV halfback Declan Murphy sign his first professional rugby contract.
After a successful trial earlier this year, Declan (Mansfield House) will move to the United Kingdom in October to start his contract with the Wasps Rugby Club based in Coventry, England.
Declan’s hard work, quick feet, accurate passing and speed around the field caught the eye of a number of teams and he has decided to follow his dream and ply his trade in the United Kingdom. A holder of both New Zealand and United Kingdom passports, Declan will start his career as a full time academy player and look to work his way into the premiership team over time.
Update 29 November 2022
Due to Wasps being placed into administration, all contracts were terminated. However, Saracens Rugby Club, based in North London, offered Declan a contract and he now plays for the Premier team. Declan scored a try on debut against Tel Aviv Heat.
