Macleans College filmmakers excel in national competition

The OnScreen Short Film Competition attracted over 1,000 high school students entering their films across Aotearoa New Zealand.
The national final was held on Thursday night at Academy Cinemas; remarkably three Macleans College short films were selected to be in the final twelve films. The films were made as interpretations of one of the competition's briefs: the power of music, twist ending or alternative realities. The finalists were judged by Jem Anderson-Gardner (producer at Escape Films), Rawiri Jobe (actor), Angela Bloomfield (actress and director) and Aaron Falvey (director and producer).
- ‘Perfect’ by Year 13 student Ruby Allcott (Snell House). Ruby was awarded best performance and best script.
- ‘Colin the Rapper’ by Year 10 student Asher Coomes (Batten) was highly commended for the film’s original score and was also crowned best interpretation of the brief: ‘the power of music’.
- ‘Leviticus’ by Year 13 students Caitlyn Pokorny (Te Kanawa), Daisy Li (Snell) and Eleanor Bramwell (Hillary) were highly commended for their script.
All three films will get another chance at awards glory at the Macademy Awards tomorrow night. Limited tickets are still available. Follow this link to view a trailer for the event.
