Macleans College claim four divisions at Squash Individual Championships
Posted on June 20, 2024
Macleans College students competed in the College Sport Squash Individual Championships, held at the North Shore Squash Centre from 21 - 22 May.
Twenty two schools from across Auckland lined up to compete in these annual championships.
On the first day of competition the students met at school at 7.00am and were transported by Mr Tracey, the manager of the top boys’ team, to the venue. After a long drive in morning traffic, everyone was eager to start their matches.
The tournament followed a knockout format, with each student playing three games to determine their final placing. Most players won their first game, with only Macleans College vs Macleans College games resulting in losses.
The second round was intense, with five of the six finalist spots across the three brackets taken by Macleans College players, leading to a series of exciting finals.
Congratulations to the winners on the first day :
- Matthew Kim (Upham House) - division 8
- Charlie Bond (Batten) - division 7
- Alex Rose (Hillary) - division 6
All participants thoroughly enjoyed the first day of squash games. Thank you to the organising efforts of the staff, particularly Mr Tracey and Ms Sutanto.
The second day began early with games starting at 8.30 am. Each student played three games, with everyone winning at least one. The students supported each other from the sidelines and developed new skills by refereeing other games.
After tough matches, Davin Burn (Upham) won the boys' ungraded division.
The Macleans College squash players can be very proud of their efforts. Special thanks to Mr Chang for providing transportation and coaching throughout the second day.
